Konami

As Lead Designer, I was responsible for shaping the player facing experience:

  • UI Direction: Defined the overall look and feel of the interface, ensuring it was intuitive, playful, and immersive.
  • Motion & Interaction Design: Directed the motion design and interactive behaviors to enhance feedback and delight.
  • UX Strategy: Helped craft the player journey, from onboarding to in-game collaboration mechanics.
  • Design System: Built a scalable design system to support rapid iteration and visual consistency across the game.

I also collaborated closely with game designers, engineers, and stakeholders to align on vision and execution.

The Challenge

Konami gave us a rare opportunity: to reimagine one of their legendary IPs, Survival Kids, for a modern audience. The challenge was twofold:

  1. Honor the legacy of the original game, beloved for its charm and survival mechanics.
  2. Reinvent it for a younger, co-op-focused audience that craves fast-paced, social gameplay.

This was our chance to prove ourselves and potentially unlock more collaborations with Konami.

The Solution

We designed and built a fast paced, family friendly co-op survival game that retained the spirit of the original while introducing fresh, engaging mechanics for today’s players.

Key Features:

  • Co-op gameplay: Players must collaborate to survive, solve puzzles, and complete challenges.
  • Dynamic environments: Biomes, Weather, wildlife, and resource scarcity keep players on their toes.
  • Mini-games & events: Designed to be fun, chaotic, and replayable, perfect for younger audiences.

Results

  • Konami was thrilled with the final product and immediately greenlit a second IP collaboration.
  • Strengthened partnership between Unity and Konami, opening doors for future co-development.
  • Positive reception from both gamers and reviewers, with praise for the game’s charm, accessibility, and co-op mechanics.
